Missions
Missions are the jobs that ninja are deployed on. In return they are paid Ryo and earn Experience. Missions range from menial request from locals, to large request from village and country leaders such as Kage and Daimyo themselves.

Mission Ranks
To represent the difficulty and significance of Missions, there are Ranks
  • 'D' – The easiest and least deadly of jobs, these missions are almost always given to Genin like ninja. These missions help to build teamwork skills among newly initiated ninja and typically don't involve combat and give low pay. An example of such a mission would be finding a lost animal, catching a petty theft or delivering something. These missions, if completed successfully, yield 15 EXP and 2,000 Ryo.
  • 'C' – Assigned to skilled Genin and fresh Chuunin ninja, these missions involve putting yourself to the test against a force of some sort where your life could suddenly be at risk. Escorting, capturing or exterminating dangerous animals, mine clearing, even bandit hunting. These missions, if completed successfully, yield 45
    EXP
    and 5,000 Ryo.
  • 'B' – Only skilled Chuunin like ninja are deployed on these tasks. These also include escorting politicians and important figures, gathering intelligence on rival factions, and even killing shinobi from other lands. These missions, if completed successfully, yield 100EXP and 10,000 Ryo.
  • 'A' – Important and potentially extremely dangerous tasks that are made almost exclusively to Jonin ninja. These include being dispatched for diplomatic causes between other nations, escorting VIPs, infiltrate organizations, abduct prisoners, or even training a small village's militia. A-Rank missions will usually take places in foreign lands and involve being away from the village for a period of time. If completed successfully, yield 250EXP and 15,000-30,000 Ryo.
  • 'S' – Missions with world shaking gravity. Often top-secret dives into the hells of the Shinobi world for the sake of maintaining peace and balance. Not even standard Jonin will cut it, these campaigns require the cream of the crop or even forces like Anbu. These missions involve the assassination of important persons such as other Kage, or prolific shinobi or other villages, or even Daimyo. Decimating a village, kidnapping or impersonating political officials, transporting classified documents or kinjutsu that could start or end a war. These missions, if completed successfully, yield 500-1,000EXP and 50,000-100,000 Ryo.

Ninja Ranks
In addition to Experience and Ryo, the actual field experience a ninja gains from Missions is what makes them eligible for Rank Ups. Along with meeting the requirements every Rank Up beyond Genin requires Kage/Clan Leader approval unless you are rouge. Upon Ranking up, you get an Experience bonus.
  • Genin: Learn all Village Academy Jutsu. | 50xp
  • Chunin: 3 D-Rank & 1 C-Rank Mission | 150xp
  • Jonin:3 B-Rank & 1 A-Rank Mission | 250xp
  • Anbu: 3 A-Rank or 1 S-Rank Mission | 200xp
  • Sanin: 3 S-Rank Missions | 300xp
  • Kage: Chosen by previous Kage or village | 500xp
a

Beyond providing Ninja's with opportunities to gain experience and put their skills to use, Missions also provide the Village that represents the ninja Resources.
It should be noted that Kage like ninja and Commissioners have the ability to bypass the "rank" requirements for missions, and can assign any level mission to any shinobi, regardless of their personal rank (i.e a leader could send a team of low level members out on a s-ranked mission, albeit highly discouraged to do such).

It should also be noted that missions should be justifiably written out in correlation to their rank.  Should your leader feel you did a poor job at your mission, they do reserve the right to decline your completion (simply in terms of payment of ryo and exp for completing the mission).
